Here, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De and his accompanying members inspected the construction progress, repairing 450m of N8 irrigation canal and upgrading 500m of dike on the Nong Giang river system in Nam Thanh, Dai Thanh, and Ly Thanh communes funded by the JICA Project.

After the inspection, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the construction units to focus on speeding up the progress and urgently completing the items so that on May 27, the Bac Nghe An irrigation system will open water for farmers to produce the summer-autumn crop in time.

Regarding agricultural production, this spring crop, Yen Thanh district planted 12,800 hectares of rice. At this time, the whole district has harvested 82% of the area, with a yield of more than 7.3 tons/ha and is preparing all conditions to plant 11,500 hectares of summer-autumn rice.

After the inspection, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De requested Yen Thanh district to focus on directing and implementing the correct summer-autumn crop planting schedule with the motto of "the sooner the better", well preparing the land preparation, seed sources, and fertilizers to ensure quality.

Particularly for 3,500 hectares in 9 communes in low-lying areas, summer-autumn crop production must be carried out immediately after the spring harvest, to avoid damage from rain and floods at the end of the season. For communes in intensive farming areas and areas using water from lakes and dams, water sources must be balanced and irrigation water must be used sparingly; proactively develop plans to combat drought.

In case of prolonged drought, there must be a plan to convert crops in highland communes, minimizing abandoned areas due to lack of water for production.
