Que Phong: African swine fever spreads complicatedly and is difficult to control

(Baonghean.vn) - On July 15, the People's Committee of Que Phong district issued Decision No. 414/QD-UBND announcing African swine fever in Nam Nhoong commune. This is the 8th commune out of 14 communes and towns in the district to be infected with the disease.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong - Head of the Veterinary Station of Que Phong district said: "On July 14, Mr. Oc Van Phu's household in Huoi Cam village, Nam Nhoong commune, Que Phong had a total herd of 10 pigs, all of which died, weighing 195 kg. We immediately took samples and sent them to the Veterinary Department of Region III for testing. This morning, July 15, we received the results from the Veterinary Department of Region III, which were positive for African swine fever."

The People's Committee of Que Phong district immediately issued Decision No. 414 dated July 15 to declare the epidemic in Nam Nhoong commune after receiving test results from the Veterinary Department of Region III. The commune also proceeded to destroy the pigs on the same day.

Thus, as of July 15, Nam Nhoong is the 8th commune out of 14 communes and towns in Que Phong district to be infected with African swine fever. The first commune to be infected with African swine fever was Que Son and was announced by the People's Committee of Que Phong district according to Decision 377, dated June 13 with 25 pigs.

8 communes of Que Phong district are affected by African swine fever in order: Que Son, Tri Le, Cam Muon, Chau Thon, Quang Phong, Tien Phong, Chau Kim. The total number of sick, dead, and culled pigs is nearly 250 with a weight of 6,829 kg.

Since the announcement of the first Decision on African swine fever, the People's Committee of Que Phong district has directed relevant departments, branches and communes to set up checkpoints in all communes affected by the epidemic and communes under threat 24/7. However, due to the characteristics of Que Phong, people raise pigs freely on the fields, so it is very difficult to control.
