People in Quy Chau cast nets to 'pick up' fish in flooded ponds
(Baonghean.vn) - The recent flood has wiped out many fish ponds that were about to be harvested, leaving many people in Quy Chau district empty-handed. After the flood, people brought nets to the ponds to catch the remaining fish.
In Minh Tien village, Chau Hanh commune (Quy Chau), where there are many fish farming households, many fish ponds in this village were damaged by floods. Many people cast nets in the ponds, hoping to collect the fish that were left after the flood.

Mr. Quan Vi Sinh in Minh Tien village, Chau Hanh commune, was shocked to recount the scene of the flood: At about 9:00 a.m. on September 27, the water from the stream rose high, Minh Tien reservoir broke, water flooded in and swept away 3 fish ponds (1,500m2), the pond bank next to the stream area was also swept away and broken.
According to Mr. Sinh, the grass carp, bighead carp, and bighead carp have been raised for 6-7 months, reaching a weight of 2-3 kg each. According to the plan, they will be sold near Tet, with an estimated income of over 100 million VND. At that time, the family will have an income to cover their living expenses. But now they have lost everything, and they do not know when they will be able to rebuild.

The 75-year-old man quietly went down to the pond to cast his net, but only caught 3-5 small tilapia.
Not far from Mr. Sinh's house, Mr. Lang Duong is in a similar situation; his family has 2 fish ponds, which have been raised for 3-4 months, but now they were all washed away by the flood, leaving only the eroded pond banks.

Mr. Vi The Long - Chairman of Chau Hanh Commune People's Committee said: The flood caused damage to 16.7 hectares of fish farms, concentrated in Minh Chau, Minh Tien, Na Ca villages... There are many ponds that have been raised for 6-7 months, the fish have reached 2-3 kg in weight, waiting for the upcoming Tet to harvest but now they have been washed away. The commune is directing people in the villages to help each other maintain and repair the pond banks. The commune will report to the district to ask for a solution and support people with the cost of buying fish fry.

In Chau Binh commune, many aquaculture households also suffered losses; nearly 20 hectares of fish ponds in the commune were damaged.

According to the report of the People's Committee of Quy Chau district, in the past few days of heavy rain and floods, the whole district has had over 45 hectares of fish ponds washed away, mainly concentrated in the communes of Chau Binh, Chau Hanh, Chau Thang... The district is asking the communes to review and count the damage of households to submit to the competent authorities for consideration, and have a support plan to help people quickly repair fish ponds and stabilize their lives.
