(Baonghean.vn) - Information about wild elephants appearing in some areas in Quy Chau district was informed by the Forest Protection Management Board to Nghe An Newspaper on the afternoon of August 11, 2021.

Head of the Quy Chau Protective Forest Management Board, Mr. Tran Ngoc Kien, said that since the beginning of May 2021, wild elephants have appeared in sub-area 199, near Na Xen village, Chau Hanh commune.

In this situation,Quy Chau Protective Forest Management Boardhas directed Forest Protection Management Station No. 4 to disseminate to the people manual methods such as lighting fires, beating gongs, etc. to drive away elephants, ensuring safety of life and property. At the same time, a written report has been sent to the District People's Committee to direct the People's Committees of the communes in the area to warn the people, especially in residential areas adjacent to natural forests.

On July 15, 2021,wild elephantcontinued to appear in Luong village, Chau Phong commune. Through inspection, wild elephants destroyed some temporary huts of people near the edge of the forest, and left very clear footprints.

“In Quy Chau district, there are 5,000 hectares of protective forest; it is considered a rich forest area with many valuable timber trees. Regarding wild elephants, a few years ago, the Board identified two individuals, a mother and her child, living in the protective forest. Occasionally, these two mother and child elephants appear in the forest edge area. According to the assessment of the Quy Chau Protective Forest Management Board, the appearance of wild elephants in Chau Hanh and Chau Phong communes is most likely due to a lack of salt, so they have destroyed some camps to find salt…” - said Mr. Tran Ngoc Kien.
