Nghe An releases rare "turtle" weighing nearly 20 kg into the sea
(Baonghean.vn) - A hawksbill turtle was caught on a fishing hook and washed ashore in Quynh Thuan commune, Quynh Luu district (Nghe An). Fishermen caught it and released it back into the sea on the morning of April 18.
Mr. Dau Ngoc Quang - in hamlet 8, Son Hai commune, Quynh Luu district said that at 10:00 a.m. on April 18, while he was fishing at Eo beach, Quynh Thuan commune, he discovered a yellow turtle with 2 large hooks stuck in its body moving towards the rocky beach.
Seeing the turtle floating on the water, Mr. Quang quickly pulled it to shore, removed the hook, then immediately called the Quynh Thuan Border Guard Station. Upon receiving the news, officers from the Border Guard Station were present at the scene to receive the turtle.
Through observation, the turtle belongs to the hawksbill turtle family, weighs nearly 20 kg, has a shiny yellow back with checkerboard patterns, is estimated to be dozens of years old, and is a rare species.
After receiving and examining the "turtle's" wound, the fisheries control force, Quynh Thuan Border Guard Station and local authorities released the turtle back into the sea.

According to Major Ho Sy Can - an officer of Quynh Thuan Border Guard Station, this "turtle" has high economic value, if sold on the market it would fetch between 30 and 50 million VND. However, Mr. Quang did not sell it but reported it to the authorities. This action of Mr. Quang deserves to be commended.
